Club News : Annual Club Fundraising Draw
Posted by admin on Tue, 11 Nov '08 (15 reads)
Barna G.A.A. Club would appreciate your support in its fund-raising for the year 2009.
Normally, sponsorship of the Clubs Senior Team for a season would cost approximately €9,000, but in order to maximise the benefit to both Club and sponsors, it is our aim to seek a limited number of sponsors who will agree to contribute €100.00 each.
The Club will pick one actual sponsor by way of a grand draw. Their company logo will then appear on our senior team's jerseys for the forthcoming season. All of the other contributors will have their support acknowledged and members will be urged to reciprocate this support where possible.
This draw will take place in Donnelly’s Bar, Barna on Saturday, 6th of December, 2008 at 10.00pm.
The benefits to the Club are that we are not obliged to seek a huge sponsorship figure from one individual or organisation.
The benefits to the sponsor(s) are two-fold: 1) For €100.00, your support will be acknowledged in the Barna Parish, and 2) For the same €100.00, you stand a chance of being the sole official sponsor for the Barna Senior Team for the full 2008 season.
I would be very grateful to you for your serious consideration in helping us to continue our proud tradition of Gaelic Sport in Barna and I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
Please contact us if you would like to take part in the draw for Senior Sponsor 2009. Click here.
Yours in sport
Mairtín Mc Dermott Chairman

Senior Football : Seniors Suffer Defeat at Claregalway
Posted by admin on Sun, 2 Nov '08 (25 reads)
Clayton Hotel Senior B League Claregalway: 2-10 Barna: 2-6 at Claregalway
The Barna Seniors suffered an away defeat to Claregalway on Saturday afternoon. The Senior's away form had been extremely good up until Saturday, however, in a game with a lot of frees and a disappointing lack of free flowing football, the Barna team were never able to capitalise when the they got the ball moving.
The game was littered with penalty kicks, all but one of which was skilfully put away. The spot kicks kept the game tight up until and after half-time. However, the turning point in an somewhat evenly poised game was the bizarre sending off of Barna's Brian Connelly after a second yellow card. This was an unfortunate turn in the game for Barna and it allowed Claregalway to used their extra man and pull away just enough. In a forgettable game, which contained enough mouthing to make most GAA followers cringe, Barna put in a professional performance just lacking enough to overcome Claregalway.
Check out the Photos from the game here. Check the League Table here.

Club News : Club Member Enjoy A Great Weekend In Marbella
Posted by admin on Tue, 28 Oct '08 (115 reads)
Barna GAA Club travelled to the South of Spain during the October Bank Holiday Weekend to take part in the Marbella Tournament for the second time. The tournament is hosted by the Costa Gaels Club. On our first visit four years ago, the Club were successful in winning the tournament. Barna GAA Club were delighted to be once again invited back to take part in the tournament and in total, twenty six people travelled South for four days of fun and football.
It must be said that the club are extremely grateful for the efforts put in by the organisers towards putting on such a worthwhile event. A lot of planning must go into an event like this and special mention must be made for event organiser Jed. To use the cliché, "He's a great GAA man...". In addition, special mention must also be made for the efforts of organisation and coordination by Brian Conneely, without whom the Club members would have not had such a memorable weekend.
There was always going to have to be a balance between the teams performance on and off the pitch. Over the four days, in can be said that the balance swung overwhelmingly toward a performance off the pitch. Thanks to the staff of The Cladagh Bar and The Hogan Stand Bar for their hospitality. Thanks also to Bar Vips for always being open.
Over the weekend, the most memorable performance was that of Mick O'Grady who duly picked up the prestigious Player Of The Tournament. There is no doubt what a truly great player Mick was over the weekend. Well done!
We have lots of photos in the Photos section and a couple of YouTube movies to follow. So stay tuned.
Those of you that attended the trip to Marbella, please feel free to leave your comments by clicking on the "Comment" button. They would be greatly appreciated. You'll have to log in first...

Congratulations to the u10s team on retaining the Connemara league cup on Saturday. They beat a gallant carraroe team in the final, the Barna boys gave an excellent display of football on the day. It was a fitting end to their year, in which they also won the city league in july. A special thank you must go to all the parents for their support during the year in getting the children to the games and training sessions.
