Rathkenny GFC AGM takes place on

Friday 5th December, 8.30pm in Clubhouse

Donal Curtis named Meath selector (Posted 18th November).

Rathkenny star Donal Curtis has been named as a selector by Eamon O'Brien for the 2009 campaign. Donal has worked closely with Eamon over the last three years within the Rathkenny set up. Donal (pictured left holding aloft the IFC trophy of 2006) has two All-Ireland medals (1996 & 1999) and three Leinster medals (1996, 1999, 2001). He will be joined by another former Meath legend Robbie O'Malley. Former Meath star Colm Brady has been installed as trainer. We wish Donal the best of luck in his new appointment.

2009 O'Byrne Cup draw made (Posted 13th November)

Meath will face Westmeath in the opening round of the 2009 O'Byrne Cup. The game will be played in Navan on January 4th. The full draw is Longford v Athlone I.T., Louth v UCD, Offaly v Dublin, Wicklow v Carlow, Kildare v Wexford, Meath v Westmeath, Laois v DCU, Kilkenny v DIT.

Eamon O'Brien becomes new Meath manager (Posted 11th November).

Eamon O'Brien was appointed manager of the Meath senior football team last night (Monday).The former selector who worked with Sean Boylan was put forward for ratification by the selection sub-committee at Monday night's Co Board meeting in Navan. Eamon has been Rathkenny manager for the last three years, during which time he brought senior status to the club. We wish him the best of luck in his new appointment.

Ireland win back Cormac McAnallen Perpetual Trophy (Posted 31st October).

Ireland beat Australia 57-53 this morning (Friday) in Melbourne, thanks to goals from Benny Coulter (2), Kieren Donaghy and Enda McGinley. Australia led 15-12 after the first quarter, however Irelands 2 goals in the second quarter meant Ireland led 36-21 at the half-time break. They extended this lead to 50-33 at the three quarter stage before hanging on in the final quarter despite two Aussie goals.

Final score Ireland 4-8-9 (57) Australia 3-8-11 (53). Ireland win the series by 5 points.

Ireland captain Sean Cavanagh (pictured above with Rathkenny PRO Gerry Gavagan) was the top scorer with 27 points in the series.
