Article from the Fermanagh Herald Aughdrumsee have been one of the surprise teams in the competition and they continued their excellent run of wins with this demolition of Kinawley to make it three successes on the trot for them. More than sufficient to sweep them into the quarter finals, where they will fancy their prospects of making further impact there. In this tussle with Kinawley, it was Aughadrumsee who were to make practically all of the running. An early goal gave them a lift and they generally looked the more assured team from there on, going in at the interval with a five point advantage. That advantage was not to come under any undue pressure on the changeover, the leaders confident in all that they were doing and a second goal which arrived around the threequarter mark signalled the end of any lingering hopes that Kinawley might have been entertaining thoughts that they could force a late rally. For Aughadrumsee, their defence had a particularly good performance and in fact they did not concede the Kinawley goal until very late in the hour, by which time the contest had been long wrapped up. Individually there were fine displays turned in by Darren O'Hara at corner back and Paul Boyle at wing back while further up the park for them, Aiden Little and Ryan Boyle were much to the fore. DEFENSIVE For Kinawley their better players in what proved to be a testing sixty minutes, were Gabriel McHugh and Fran Keenan. Both showing well in a defensive sector which did have a lot of work on its hands throughout the hour. Ciaran Melanophy and Darren Owens also chipped in with occasional moments but overall Kinawley were on the back foot against a sharper and more eager opposition. First half points for Kinawley were to come from Ciaran Melanophy and Karl McGovern with Sean McManus and Ryan Boyle responding for Aughdrumsee. Key score of the half though was the first of what was to be a hat trick of Aughadrumsee goals. This score came from Niall Beggan on ten minutes and it proved to be the foundation stone for Aughadrumsee's subsequent control of the game. Second half points for Aughadrumsee who were now increasingly in command came from Aiden Bannon and Sean McManus with two more goals struck home, both from Ryan Boyle to underline the authority they had enjoyed from the early stages. Kinawley did have a late consolation goal in reply, this coming from Darren Owens but they were far in arrears at this juncture and Aughadrumsee were coasting to an emphatic win, which takes them into the quarter finals. |
