Irvinestown 0-06 Kinawley 0-09 (SFL) PDF Print E-mail
A somewhat better performance from Irvinestown at least in the first half which saw them play some purposeful football. Winning a fair amount of possession in the middle of the park and showing some enterprise up front, the St Molaise squad looked like they would be able to come out with a win here which would revitalise their league hopes.

They reached the interval leading by two points but from the resumption onwards the game was to belong to a refreshed Kinawley team who now picked up the pace.

It was Kinawley who were collecting a lot of loose ball and their defence was to curb the Irvinestown attack most effectively in the second period, restricting the home side to just a solitary point.

For the winners, Conor McBarron played extremely well at full back and there was to be consistent support forthcoming from Barry McManus and Damian Owens the latter a sparkly wing half forward.

Not so good though from Kinawley in the first half, quite sluggish in fact and they managed just three points, Shaun Doherty and Kevin Martin the marksmen. Irvinestown with Manus O'Kane their main threat hit five but then fell away from the changeover despite the earnest efforts of Tiarnan Daly, Liam McQuaid and Conor Doonan

Meanwhile Kinawley were shrugging off their early stupor and with Sean Hussey leading the way with three second half points and Doherty again on the mark the visiting side crept home with three points in hand.

Referee: Paul Campbell, Tempo.
