This win keeps Kinawley still alive in the promotion chase, but it was a subdued enough performance from them and they had to work extremely hard to overcome a busy Coa side.

An evening which had both defences hold the upper hand and scoring was sporadic with place kicking very much the order of the day.

But it was a closely contested tussle and with less than ten minutes remaining it could easily have gone either way before Kinawley did manage to make the stronger finishing burst. For Coa, Gary Donnelly was a force in their full back line and Mark Coalter was also a prominent figure for them in the defensive set up while up front, Gerry Murphy was perhaps their most effective forward,

For Kinawley, Niall Bogue efficiently marshalled their defence and Sean Leonard had his moments around the middle of the park but the attack never really functioned and the vast bulk of the winner's scores were to come from Tomás Corrigan and Shaun Doherty from placed kicks. It was Coa who shaped up as the brisker team over the opening quarter though they were not to turn this into a stream of scores, just two points for the O'Dwyers Gary Lynch and Eoin Donnelly on the mark for them.

Kinawley in fact were very slow to get moving and the game was well into the second quarter before they finally got off the mark.

They were to shoot three points, all coming from successful placed kicks from Corrigan and the teams turned in at the interval level on three each.

That scoreline remained in place until well into the second half before Kinawley did move out in front with Shaun Doherty on the scoresheet for them. Coa were to shoot just a solitary score in that second half, Cathal Beacom knocking over a 50th minute free and momentarily they looked like they might salvage a draw.

But over the run in it was Kinawley who were to finish stronger, a couple of late scores easing them that little bit more comfortably ahead in what had been a generally low key affair.

Referee: John Mohan, Aughdrumsee.
