ERNE GAELS ............................. 1-8 KINAWLEY ................................ 2-8 Kinawley had to come from behind to overcome Erne Gaels, the Belleek team having the better of matters in the opening half to go in at the break leading by a goal. But on the changeover, it was Kinawley who managed to up the pace of their game and they powered their way through for a two goal hit, which got them successfully over the finishing line. But it has been a far from impressive opening sequence of games from the Brian Boru's and they have come close to shipping a number of defeats. If they are to make a forceful bid for promotion, they will have to show better form than they have been doing so far. Crunch period in this game was immediately after the resumption when Kinawley sprang out of the traps in devastating fashion to scoop up a goal and three points tally, which jumped them into the lead and from there to the finish they looked the stronger side. Not the case, however, in the first half with Erne Gaels looking lively in several areas of the park. They were to have points from Shane O'Brien, Daniel McGullion and Mark Duffy but the big score for them was the goal scored by Paul Keown. This was a well-taken individual effort from him as he swooped on to a pass some 30m out before striding in and hammering home his shot. Kinawley had been sporadic in their response; scores from Sean Leonard and Kevin Martin keeping them within range of the leaders. The restart, however, saw Kinawley rejuvenated and they took a firm grip on matters. Three points knocked over quickly and then the major boost of their first goal, this scored by Sean Hussey after a fluent move out of defence had speared through the Erne Gaels midfield. The Belleek team tried hard to haul themselves back into contention and they were to have scores from Shane O'Brien, Shane Lyons and from substitute Colin Ferguson but they had lost some of the spark that they had shown early in the game and it was Kinawley, who now had the look of being the winning side. That impression was strengthened with the arrival of the second Kinawley goal, this one tucked away smartly by Matthew Drumm and there was no way back for Erne Gaels after that, despite the sturdy efforts of midfielder Shane Lyons, defender Damian Lyons and Ciaran Smith. For Kinawley, substitute Matthew Drumm was a strong figure with Sean Leonard a leading light in the attack and he chipped in with an invaluable tally of points in each half.
