Kinawley had a convincing win in the first round of the championship against Derrylin. Derrylin got off the mark first with a couple of frees from Damien Cassidy, Sean Hussey replied with a point & a goal to put them ahead with 10 minutes played,

further points from Sean Leonard (blk) & Sean Leonard (red) Shaun Doherty, Thomás Corrigan & another from Hussey just before half time meant Kinawley went in at half time 1.5 - 0.5 ahead.  Mark Murphy (0.1) & Damien Cassidy (0.4) were Derrylins scorers. In the second half Micheal Shannon brought it back to 2 points before Niall Bogue scored a point & 2 from Corrigan. On 20 minutes a Mark Murphy penalty brought Derrylin back in to the game  bring it back to a 2 point lead 1.8 - 1.6. Almost immediately Kinawley scored a goal from Shea Keenan . Derrylin had 2 more Murphy points in the last few minutes but these were cancelled out by Kinawleys third goal coming from Corrigan who also tagged on a point to take his total to 1-4 for the game.
