From the Fermanagh Herald Kinawley stun Enniskillen KINAWLEY ............................ 1-8 ENNISKILLEN ........................ 1-7 Second division Kinawley produced a stunning upset when they knocked out first division Enniskillen in a game that had a dramatic finish. An understrength Enniskillen team appeared to have done just enough to squeeze their way through as they led by two points with the game well into added-on time. But this is always a precarious lead and the game was to be snatched from the Gaels when they conceded a penalty. Tomas Corrigan dispatched the placed kick to shoot Kinawley a point in front. There was still time though for Enniskillen to rescue the situation and they mounted a number of attacks as the added-on time stretched but they failed to hit the target and Kinawley had claimed a memorable scalp. Defences generally had the upper hand in this contest, for Kinawley Cahir Gilheaney and Danny McCaffery especially effective in their rearguard and substitute Gerry Gallagher also shone while for Enniskillen Conal Smith was a leading figure. Kinawley popped over four first half points, Chris Doonan, Sean Crudden, Aiden Clarke and Tomas Corrigan the marksmen. In response, Enniskillen had two scores from Gareth Moane but the main score of the half was to be the Gaels' goal. This arrived five minutes prior to the interval, James Carney crisply smacking home a fine shot that put his side a point to the good. Enniskillen shaded matters in the second half, though only marginally so. Kinawley centre half-back Paddy McGovern had come upfield on the resumption to fire over an equalising score but it was the Gaels who again took the lead with scores from Richard O'Callaghan, Kirk West and Gareth Moane. However, their lead was never an assured one and in the end they were to be overhauled in dramatic fashion. |
