July 2018 Newsletter - Issue 26

July 15th 2018 marks the 60th anniversary of the death of Kinawley man Patrick McManus, a true Gael and the namesake of our football grounds. Patrick, with his twin brother Terence, was born to Celia and Patrick McManus in March 1929, part of a large family of 10 children.

He held the position of Secretary of the Club from 1954 to 1956 and was part of the successful Junior Championship winning team in 1951.The Club struggled from 1945 to 1950 to survive.  In 1950, Patrick and other club members restored the Club and it was incredible to win a Championship the following year. He loved all types of sports and the outdoor life. At the time, he ran around with Patrick Murphy, the McCormick’s and Smith’s of Clonliff and the O’Reilly’s from Kilnafinta.
